The City of Everett Parks Department is currently accepting applications for a Park Ranger Lead Day Laborer. This employment will not exceed nine months in duration. It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon request at the completion of employment. These positions are provided with pro-rated City of Everett benefits (No medical benefits). Any position requiring a CDL will be subject to the City of Everett's random Drug and Alcohol Policy per U.S. Department of Transportation regulations. Union membership is required within 30 days of hire.
NATURE OF WORK
This is semi-skilled work performing a variety of duties that are necessary to provide a safe park environment, including park patrol and park code enforcement. A DLIV Park Ranger will interact frequently with the public helping to educate them about park codes and provide other assistance as needed. Other duties may include assisting with special events and basic park maintenance. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Ranger Supervisor or Ranger II, although actual work assignments and review may be exercised by higher-level park personnel. The DLIV may supervise other seasonal employees. Many duties are performed independently to conform to prescribed standards. The work includes responsibility for observation, recording and enforcement of park codes, rules and regulations related to parks.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
An employee in this position is responsible for ensuring the safety of the City parks and public. Patrol the park with a designated vehicle, on foot or with use of a bicycle. Provide a variety of services and assistance to the public. Assist with vehicle problems, providing directions and information. Perform security checks on buildings and facilities. Assist facility users with rental hall issues or problems and ensure facilities are being used in compliance with rules and regulations. Responsible for locking gates and restrooms on a nightly basis. Assist in educating the public of park codes and provide information to the public. Issue citations and infractions for park and parking violations, including Exclusion Notices. Work closely with the Everett Police Department for criminal violations and criminal contacts. Assist with numerous special events for parking, traffic, security and other assignments.
